Our latest interview is with Social Media Executive, Harry Stannard who joined the company in April 2022. Harry joins Making Websites Better embarking on his career journey in digital marketing. The 23 year old has recently been a freelancer, working with many marketing industry professionals in a variety of sectors producing marketing campaigns in Oil & Gas, Education, Hospitality, Retail and more.
Harry is currently studying a Digital Marketing full-time degree alongside his duties at MWB where he is due to graduate from Anglia Ruskin University in 2023.
What’s the best thing about working at MWB?
“The variety. I like that we work with many companies, each from different industries. It means the work isn’t always the same. Whilst the principles and strategies used in digital marketing remain, it provides great satisfaction to apply them to different audiences for different companies with different goals, and understanding what works and why.”
How do you like to unwind in your spare time after a busy week at work?
“In the evenings, I enjoy going for walks down the seafront. I sit in front of a screen all day, so I feel it’s important to go out and get fresh air. At the weekend, I like to plan the day early in the morning, before going out for the day and enjoying some down time.
THREE words that describe your personality
Adventurous – I want to see the world. We’re here once, make the most of it. Many countries have a lot to offer, and I hope to experience most of it.
Competitive – If we’re not keeping score, what’s the point in playing?
Sociable – I prefer to go out and meet people. Whether it’s grabbing a drink, watching the football, or winning at bowling; as long as I’m out doing something, I’m happy.
What is your passion in life?
“I want to explore. Not by myself, but with people. I’m desperate to see different parts of the world, and enjoy it with good company.”
Is there a specific experience in life that always stayed with you, changed your outlook or made you more motivated to succeed?
“I’ve worked with some truly inspiring characters, and I’ve learnt a lot from them. I hope to one day be a leader, and inspire my team to achieve the best.”
What is your proudest achievement?
“I scored 298 on Wii Bowling. I have the photo for proof if anyone doesn’t believe me. I hit a 9 and that ruined the perfect 300!”
Who was your role model/hero growing up?
“Thierry Henry. I’m sure that’s the same for many football fans growing up. Even you, Spurs fans!”
Where is your favourite place in the world?
“Rome. I seriously love everything about Rome. The cuisine is obviously top tier, and my personal favourite sight is the Colosseum. I look forward to going back.”
What is the one thing you could not go a day without?
“Chocolate. It’s actually not good - I eat A LOT of chocolate. Anything Kinder, or Creme Eggs basically.”
What is your favourite song?
“I’m Still Standing – Elton John. I listen to a lot of Dave, Fredo, and J. Cole. However, Elton John has some incredible tunes, and I know I’ll never get tired of that song.”
What is your favourite Film/TV programme?
"My favourite film is Hangover 1. 10/10. My favourite series is The Office, U.S. 10/10."
What are your favourite food and drink choices?
“I love meatballs and pasta. Incredible dish. As for my drink choices – beer.”
What is your hidden talent?
“Even when I’m told somebody’s name, and even if I read it and say it to myself over and over, I may still get it wrong. That, for me, is impressive!”
What is your biggest phobia?
“Insects. Honestly, I don’t like them. I feel paranoid when sitting on grass that an Ant is going to come bother me. I HATE wasps and Bees. Spiders, obviously. Although, Crocodiles too. I have this dream that comes back every now and then that one is trying to kill me. Hate it!”
What is your favourite motivational quote?
“Cliché maybe, but in Rocky (the film), when talking to his son he says “It’s not about how hard you can hit, but how hard you get hit, and keep moving forward”. Life can be difficult, but you shouldn’t let it overrule you. I try to look for the positive no matter how difficult the situation is.
What would be top of your bucket list?
“I would love to visit China. I believe it has so much to offer over there. I would ideally like to take several weeks to explore the country.”
If you won well over £1,000,000 on the lottery, what would you spend your winnings on?
“I would buy four houses at £200k each and rent them out. The remaining £200k would be used to explore the world. I would also buy my Mum a ticket to Rome. She’d love to visit the city. She can sort her own hotel, though!”
Finally, if you hosted a dinner party, who would be your chosen FIVE guests (dead or alive)?
“Ricky Gervais, Tyson Fury, Thierry Henry, Fredo and Elon Musk.”
